Indiana Achieves HPAI-Free Status, Boosting Export Prospects

Indiana's Board of Animal Health declared the state free of highly pathogenic avian influenza as of August 13, 2026, meeting WOAH's 28-day no-new-infection standard after all control zones were released. The state, the nation's third-largest egg producer, has recorded 200 HPAI flock detections across 26 counties since 2022, with 72 in 2026 alone; no livestock cases have been found.

Why it matters: Indiana producers can now access export markets closed since 2022, but must maintain biosecurity as most restocked farms remain vulnerable to reintroduction.
