NASS: table-egg layer flock hits 317.3M head in August
NASS reports US table-egg layer inventory rose to 317,299,000 head in Aug 2026, up from 313,621,000 in July and the highest in the 12-month trend. All-layer-type inventory (includes broiler and breeder flocks) totaled 382,801,000 head across 26 states surveyed, with egg production at 786,091,400 dozen. Pullet chick placements dipped to 26,075,700 head, the lowest since Dec 2025.
Why it matters: Rising table-egg layer numbers (317.3M) alongside falling pullet placements (26.1M) signal near-term supply growth but a possible flock-growth slowdown ahead.
